The ANC Study Group on International Relations and Cooperation congratulates Navi Pillay on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her lifelong and unwavering commitment to human rights, justice, peace and the protection of human dignity.
As a South African and distinguished jurist, Navi Pillay has made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of international law and the global struggle against impunity. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated that no individual, institution or state is above the law, and that victims of human rights violations must receive justice, accountability and meaningful redress.
Her work has given powerful expression to the principle that peace cannot exist without justice and that justice cannot be achieved without confronting oppression, discrimination and abuse. Through her courage, integrity and intellectual leadership, she has helped strengthen the international human rights system and amplified the voices of those who have been silenced and marginalised.
The ANC study group recognises this historic achievement as a source of immense pride for South Africa and the African continent. It reflects the values of equality, freedom, non-racialism, human dignity and social justice that remain central to our movement and to the democratic order established in 1994.
The ANC Study Group salutes Navi Pillay for her distinguished service to humanity. Her achievement inspires us to renew our commitment to the struggle for a just, peaceful and better world for all.
