I hereby move without notice on behalf of the African National Congress that the House –

Notes with concern the 20% year-on-year increase in the number of police officers killed in South Africa with 111 murdered in the 2023/24 financial year.

Further, note that according to SAPS’ annual report, there was a 20,65 increase in the 92 members that were killed in the previous year.

Also note that the murders included both off-duty and on-duty police officers and is the highest recorded over the last five years.

Therefore, call on the government to do everything legally possible to defend the lives of the men and women in blue.
