MOTION ON PROTEAS LEGEND AB DEVILLIERS INDUCTED INTO THE ICC’S HALL OF FAME

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

  1. notes that Proteas legend AB De Villiers has been inducted into the ICC’’s Hall of Fame on Wednesday 16 October 2024;
  2. remembers that” De Villiers enjoyed a distinguished international career as he hit 47 international centuries across 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is;
  3. further remembers that he topped the ICC Player Rankings in Tests, where he blended exquisite stroke-play with resolute defence at times;
  4. recalls that he also went on to top the rankings in the ODI format, where his athleticism, explosiveness and ingenuity earned him the affectionate nickname of ‘Mr 360’ among global fans;
  5. acknowledges the ICC statement about De Villiers that said he was an innovative stroke-maker with an eye for the spectacular, as well as excelling in Test and T20I cricket and records for the fastest fifty, century and 150 in ODI cricket to earn a reputation of being one of the most feared, destructive batters in the history of the game; and
  6. congratulates AB De Villiers on his recognition by the ICC
