The African National Parliamentary Caucus has learned with great sadness about the injury of 25 train commuters during yesterday’s (Tuesday, 18 September 2024) train accident when two coaches derailed at Dal Josafat station near Paarl. The train was en route from Cape Town to Wellington station when the incident occurred. Emergency services such as ambulances, firefighters, and the South African Police Services were on site to assist the injured passengers.

The twenty-five (25) injured passengers were taken to various hospitals in the area by ambulances for further medical care and other passengers that were onboard were transported home. As per regulatory requirements, the incident had been reported to the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) and it is understood that the matter is under investigation.

We offer our best wishes to those injured commuters for a speedy recover and look forward to the updates on the matter from Prasa and Transnet Freight Rail (TFR).
