One of the apex priorities of the ANC in the Government of National Unity is inclusive growth and employment creation. We therefore welcome the uMgungundlovu District Municipality’s recent launch of a small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMME) support programme aimed at encouraging residents to create employment opportunities and reduce dependency on government grants. This initiative is designed to support informal and micro business enterprises within the district, with the goal of stimulating local economic development and generating job opportunities.

The programme is open to all, regardless of whether their business is registered, and stressed the importance of focusing on local economic growth.

The Municipality must be credited for urging entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities provided by the government and to use them for personal and community development. Further, it encourages people to take advantage of opportunities being provided by government rather than depending on grants.
