The ANC Study Group on Water and Sanitation commends the interventions and presence on the ground by the Minister and Deputy Ministers of Water and Sanitation to respond practically to concerns about water scarcity and its quality in the area of Hammanskraal.
We are further heartened by interventions in ensuring that the sanitation infrastructure in Hammanskraal is refurbished and upgraded to cater to population growth and future development. It remains a truism that water remains a vital source of life; not least, a precondition for economic growth and development.
Without water, the enabler of cogs of industrial activity and economic growth and development, no gross fixed capital formation is possible, itself a baseload of asset accumulation by households and businesses alike and not least, a hive of socio-economic activity and a heightened sense of well-being.
The recent visit to Hammanskraal by Minister Majodina and her two deputies, Mahlobo and Seitlholo, to ensure that not only does the community of Hammanskraal receive its daily share of 12.5m litres of water per day, but that this water meets the national standards prescribed by SANS 241, which standard conforms to the Blue Drop status and is further underpinned by the World Health Organisation’s Guidelines in this regard, is worthy of appreciation.
The ANC Study Group further urges the Hammanskraal community to do everything in their power, to work with the City of Tshwane, to stop leakages in their homes and businesses, as well as those in the City’s internal reticulation network and not least, encroachment on Rand Water’s pipeline.
