The ANC study group on Defence and Military veterans is deeply saddened by the devastating news of the passing of three South African Navy personnel in an incident that took place at Kommetjie near Cape Town.

In the same breath, the ANC study group is equally saddened by another instance that took place 90km from Upington where four members of the 8 SA Infantry Battalion (8 SAI) stationed in Upington, passed away.

As members of the ANC study group, we send our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased Navy Officers and members of 8 SAI Battalion who lost their lives serving our country.

We are with them during this very difficult time and wish a speedy recovery to the naval marines who survived the incident as well as the two members critically injured in the accident in Upington and nine who sustained minor injuries.
