Ahead of the first Parliament session after the 2024 general elections, a meeting of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners is likely to take place to discuss the candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post and to ensure better floor coordination among the alliance partners in the Parliament session, sources said.
The first Parliament session is scheduled to start from June 24 and conclude on July 3.
The election for the Lok Sabha Speaker post is scheduled to be held on June 26
On June 22 or June 23, a meeting of the NDA floor leaders and others is likely to be called for discussing the joint NDA candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post.
It seems certain that the Speaker would be from the BJP.
The Lok Sabha may have a Deputy Speaker this time — a post which remained vacant in the last five years — and it could go to one of the NDA allies, sources said.
In the 16th Lok Sabha, when BJP got an absolute majority, the party kept the Speaker post with itself while giving the Deputy Speaker post to the AIADMK — M Thambidurai was the Deputy Speaker.
During the Union Cabinet formation, the BJP opted for continuity and many of the ministers retained their current portfolios.
The party changed the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and appointed Kiren Rijiju.
