The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1. notes with sadness the passing on of former Labour Minister and African National Congress veteran Membathisi Mdladlana on Friday 18 October 2024, at the age of 72;
2. acknowledges that he served as labour minister from 1998 until 2009;
3. further acknowledges that he also served as Ambassador of South Africa in Burundi and High Commissioner of South Africa to Canada;
4. recalls that he was the founding president of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu), a position he held between 1990 and 1994;
5. urther recalls that he was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1994 and has contributed to the drafting of the Bill of Rights;
6. remembers him as a disciplined politician and an educationist of note; and
7. conveys its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Membathisi Mdladlana.
