MOTION ON FIVE SA MUSICIANS WINNING BIG AT INTERNATIONAL AWARDS CEREMONIES

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

  1. welcomes the achievement of five South African musicians at two different ceremonies on international stages recently;
  2. understands that the composer and producer Wouter Kellerman won his third Grammy Award during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony hosted by another icon Trevor Noah in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025, whereas four other local artists, Makhadzi, Tyla, Tito & Huppe, won awards in different categories at the 3rd Trace Awards & Summit in Zanzibar from February 24 -26 February 2025;  
  3. remembers that Wouter Kellerman’s latest win in Los Angeles was for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album for Triveni, in collaboration with Japanese cellist Eru Matsumoto and Indian vocalist Chandrika Tando;
  4. congratulate Wouter Kellerman and the other four South African artists on their recent achievements; the South African duo Tito & Huppe who won the Song of the Year with their chart-topping anthem Tswhala Bam, South Africa’s dynamic powerhouse Makhadzi who took home the Best Dancer award and the global sensation Tyla Laura Seethal who won the Best Female Artist with her groundbreaking artistry and unique sound;
  5. commend the five musicians for always raising the South African flag high on the international stage.
