1.      The African National Congress moved without notice: That the House –

(1) notes that on 31^st of October, the Hindu community celebrates one of the biggest and most important festivals for Hindus, the festival of Diwali/Deepavali which holds a deep cultural and religious significance as it celebrates new beginnings (new year) in the Indian culture;

(2) further notes that while Diwali is popularly known as the “festival of light”, the most significant spiritual meaning is “the awareness of the inner light” and symbolises the victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance; and

(3) extends its well wishes to the Hindu community during their celebrations.
