The ANC in Parliament extends its well wishes to our fellow Muslim community as they celebrate Eid Mubarak.
Eid Mubarak signifies the close of the holy month of Ramadaan. It is during this period that Muslim faithfuls pray and strive for spiritual growth.
As the ANC, we are pleased and encouraged by the actions taken by the Muslim community in adhering to the Covid-19 safety measures during the important celebration of Eid al-Fitr. “It is critical that our religious leaders lead by example during these trying times to curb the spread of Coronavirus”, Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina said. “It is a time to recognize the beauty and strength of our spiritual traditions and the hope that emerges from prayer”.
We also note that Eid Mubarak celebrations coincide with the 57th Africa Day Commemoration, which is commemorated virtually and online today throughout the African Continent under the theme:
“Silencing The Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development and Intensifying the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
We are confident that the solidarity expressed during Ramadaan and Africa Day will be embraced by all religious, traditional, cultural and African leaders and societies. We urge all our communities to adhere to the regulations in order to save lives of South Africans and the rest of the African diaspora.
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip, Hon. Pemmy Majodina
