STATEMENT BY THE ANC PARLIAMENTARY CAUCUS ON THE PASSING OF ITS FORMER CHIEF WHIP, CDE NATHI MTHETHWA

30 September 025

It is with great sadness that the ANC in Parliament learns of the untimely passing of its former Chief Whip, Cde Nathi Mthethwa. Cde Nathi rose within the ranks of the ANC from being chairperson of the Southern Natal branch of the South African Youth Congress to a member of the National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee of the ANC.

The former Chief Whip was elected to serve as a Member of Parliament in the third administration following the April 2004 general election and subsequently elected as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Minerals and Energy.

He was appointed as the ANC Chief Whip in the National Assembly at the beginning of 2008 and later appointed to serve in the cabinet as the Minister of Safety and Security.

As the ANC Parliamentary Caucus, we honour and recognise the contributions he made during his tenure as Chief Whip and Member of Parliament representing the ANC and his constituency, of which he was extremely proud. We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Cde Nathi during this difficult time of bereavement. We hope that they will find comfort and strength as they mourn our fallen hero.

Akwehlanga lungehli.

Lala uphumule Dingiswayo.

Issued by the ANC Chief Whip, Cde Mdumiseni Ntuli (MP)
