Statement By Ms Wendy Joy Nelson On The R9 Million Boost For Rural Based Education
10 November 2009
The African National Congress believes that education is a means of promoting good citizenship as well as preparing our people for the needs of a modern economy and a democratic society.
As a result of this commitment, the ANC views the R9million grant, which was recently awarded by Atlantic Philanthropies to the Wits University Centre for Rural Education in North West, as a major boost for the people of the province.
The North West Health and Social Development Department indicated that the three year grant will help to develop a District Training Centre.
The grant will also enable the development of a pilot District Educational Campus within Leehurutshe- Zeerust Hospital Complex in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.
The African National Congress appreciates the initiative taken by Atlantic Philanthropies and we will continue to work with educators, learners, parents, school governing bodies and other stakeholders to make education a priority for all.
I thank you!
