Statement on death of Dr Piet Koornhof

13 November 2007

The ANC Parliamentary Caucus has learned with sadness the passing away today, 13 November, of one of the members of the African National Congress, Dr Piet Koornhof.

Dr Koornhof, a father to one of the serving ANC members of parliament in the National Assembly, Dr Gerhard Koornhof, joined the ANC in 2001 following the dissolution of the New National Party, which he among others served as a cabinet minister.

His principled decision to join the ANC demonstrated a firm commitment to the construction of a united non racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa and an unwavering confidence in the new order under the leadership of the ANC.

Caucus conveys its heartfelt condolences to Dr Koornhof’s family and friends.
