Statement by Advocate Michael Masutha on the death of Esther Barsel
21 October 2008
On 6 October 2008, our country lost one of its servants for social justice, peace and democracy.
Barsel was a stalwart of the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party who was unwavering in her commitment and dedication to the struggle for a democratic and just South Africa.
She was a member of the Communist party since the 1940s, and was a tireless political activist who remained engaged in struggle until the end of her life.
The ANC salutes Esther Barsel and will forever treasure the contribution she made in the struggle for liberation and the building and deepening of our democracy. We extend our condolences to her family, friends, comrades and the South African Communist Party.
I thank you!
