Proposal of Amendment to the Broadcasting Act No.4 of 1999

The ANC Caucus wishes to endorse the memorandum of the Portfolio Committee on Communications setting out the Committee’s legislative proposal to amend the Broadcasting Act No.4 of 1999
Caucus notes that the intention of the amendment is to strengthen the independence of the Broadcaster to deliver on its public mandate.
The amendment is in relation to section 15, dealing with the process of removal of a member/ members of the SABC Board. Secondly the amendment seeks an insertion of the process of dissolving the board.
The ANC Caucus supports the initiative of the Portfolio Committee to engage the general public through public hearings on the intended legislative proposal.
