New Laws To Strengthen The Fight Against GBV

In response to the suffering that women and children of this country are subjected to, the ANC led government passed laws designed to protect them.  President Ramaphosa recently signed into law three pieces of legislation that honour our government’s commitment to strengthen the criminal justice system, promote accountability across the state and put support for survivors at the centre of all our efforts.

The President signed off on the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Bill, the Criminal and Related Matters Amendment Bill, and the Domestic Violence Amendment Bill. This will see all sexual offenders listed on a national register, will make it easier for victims to give evidence and will provide a support structure for the implementation of protection orders.

The enactment of legislation that protects victims of abuse and makes it more difficult for perpetrators to escape justice, is a major step forward in government’s efforts against this pandemic.
