NC welcomes the opening Booysens Magistrate's Court and the launch of the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court

IA Pikinini

As the ANC we remain steadfast and committed to be at the forefront of the fight to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, and we therefore welcome the planned opening of the Booysens Magistrate's Court in Gauteng, on 28 March 2019, by President Cyril Ramaphosa as well as another Magistrate Court launch at the Plettenberg Bay. These courts will deal with domestic violence, amongst others, and will also include family and children's courtrooms.

The opening and the launch of these courts are adding value and strengthening the already existing ANC Government interventions, such as Thuthuzela Care Centres across the country. These serve as one stop facilities to reduce secondary victimization, as well as other courts dealing with sexual abuse cases across the country. These initiatives are indicative of the ANC's commitment to resolve the national violent crisis unleashed on defenseless women and children. All South African women and girls are entitled to live in peace, safety and in dignity. The ANC makes a clarion call to all South Africans to work with Government in implementing the range of interventions adopted at last year's Gender-Based Violence Summit including the finalisation of the National Plan on Gender Based Violence.

I thank you
