Motion on the passing on of Amaxhosa King Mpendulo Zwelonke Sigcawu

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1) notes with shock and sadness the untimely passing on of AmaXhosa King Mpendulo Zwelonke Sigcawu in Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha on Thursday, 14th November 2019 after a long illness;
2) recalls that King Zwelonke had been the King of the AmaXhosa people since the death of his father, King Xolilizwe Sigcawu, in 2005;
3) further recalls that King Sigcawu was the 22nd AmaXhosa King and was sworn in as king of the AmaXhosa in Nqadu Great Place in the Eastern Cape in 2015;
4) acknowledges that he was a strong, courageous and development oriented leader, a unifying figure and a patriot;
5) further acknowledges that his contribution to the development of the institution of traditional leadership is beyond measure;
6) believes that he will be remembered for being the epitome of unity within the house of Phalo; and
7) conveys its condolences to his family, the royal household and entire Xhosa people.
