Appointment of New MPs
4 November 2008
The ANC Parliamentary Caucus wishes to announce the appointment of the following comrades to fill its vacant posts in Parliament.
- Comrade Agnes Christin Mashishi from the Limpopo Province
- Comrade Sally Belvia Moiloa-Ngodi from the Gauteng Province
- Comrade Felix Christopher Fankomo from the Mpumalanga Province
- Cde Freda Joan Wright from the North West Province
- Cde T.M.A Gasebonwe from the Northern Cape Province
The appointments are made in the interest of ensuring that there is continued stability and that our ability to deliver on the aspirations of our people remains unaffected.
We are confident that these comrades, who were drawn from various backgrounds, will further consolidate and make a valuable contribution to the quality work that the organisation has engaged in since the beginning of this term of Parliament.
We take this opportunity to congratulate and wish them well in their different roles.
Caucus has taken note of media reports pertaining to the intention by a certain number of its MPs to defect to a new party being formed by Terror Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa.
Whilst we are not in the habit of responding to speculation by the media, we wish to restate the position of the ANC that it respects the right of anyone to resign or join a political party of his or her choice. This is because membership of the ANC is voluntary and that the right of people to associate themselves with any political formation must be respected.
Caucus reaffirms its support for the ongoing programme of the NEC, which started at the beginning of this year, to heal the rifts within organisational structures and unite membership behind a common goal of building a caring society and better life for all our people.
We wish confirm that the Office of the ANC Chief has not received any letter of resignation or any indication to that effect from any of its MPs. Reports that certain MPs are likely to resign remain a speculation at this stage and therefore cannot be entertained.
As deployed cadres of the movement, we shall continue without distraction to deliver on our mandate to the people of South Africa, on whose behalf we are privileged to serve in this institution.
