The ANC welcomes IMC commitment to finding SASSA grants solution

HH Malgas

The ANC understands the anxieties that the impasse over social grants has caused, including fears that the cards might expire and beneficiaries will not receive their grants. And as such welcomes the assurances from the Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC)Chairperson, on Comprehensive Social Security briefing, on a joint meeting of SCOPA and the Portfolio Committee on Social Development on the payment of social grants, that an implementation protocol has been concluded and signed between the SASSA and the South African Post Office. This will pave the way for a collaborative agreement towards the payment of social grants.

This breakthrough comes after the IMC assured the joint meeting on 8 November 2017 that it would establish a dedicated team that would work towards the finalisation of the agreement between SASSA and SAPO, as well as the development of an implementation plan and a communications strategy. Furthermore, the plan the ANC believes, outlines various stages, including finalisation of all necessary service agreements, of which the final stage would be a handover process from Cash Paymaster Services to the new service provider. In the process the GCIS will ensure that beneficiaries remain informed and that their fears about the payment of social grants are allayed.

I Thank you
