STUDY GROUP SECRETARY (Salary: An all‐inclusive salary package at Level 8 per annum – R259, 425.29 p. a)


  • Grade 12, with relevant secretarial qualification with a minimum of three years’ experience;
  • Computer literacy in computer software packages and database developments with appropriate legislative and institutional archival function;
  • Knowledge of filing and records management systems and procedures;
  • Good organising and project management skills;
  • Good command of English including minute taking skills;
  • Interpersonal and problem solving skills;
  • Intermediary computer literacy in Ms Word and Excel;
  • Able to work with confidentiality;
  • Good understanding of ANC Policies;
  • Sound institutional communication skills, information management and technology skills;
  • Ability to work under deadlines and set priorities; and
  • ANC membership in good standing.


  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Whip and Members of the Study Group in an efficient and highly professional manner;
  • Check the pigeon hole at least three times a day for incoming correspondence requiring attention of the of the Study Group and the Whip.
  • Request, receive and package information/documents for meetings;
  • Manage the provision of Administrative and Secretariat support to ANC Members of Parliament;
  • Keep a proper database and filing system for the Whip and the Study Group.
  • Prepare political reports for Caucus and the Office of the Chief Whip;
  • Co-ordinate the administrative functioning of the Secretariat Support Unit and that MP’s have adequate administrative and logistical support;
  • Prepare the consolidated Study Groups reports for the ANC Caucus;
  • Co-ordinate support for the work of Study Groups;
  • Ensure that ANC MP’s have adequate secretarial and logistical support;
  • Conduct basic research on behalf of the Members of the study group;
  • Ensure constant and timeous flow of information between the MP’s Office and the PCO Field Workers;
  • Ensure that the Member’s offices are well maintained and accessible, especially when Members are away conducting Constituency work;
  • Attend Cluster meetings, Study Group Management Committee meetings, and all portfolio committee meetings; and
  • Participates in scheduled Political Activities of Caucus when required e.g. Lekgotlas.
