RESEARCHER

Applications are invited from suitable candidates with appropriate qualifications and experience for the following position: RESEARCHER: (Salary: An all‐inclusive salary package at Level 10 per annum – R440, 746.03 p. a)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A honours degree or equivalent qualification relevant to the area of research or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of two years’ research experience, post qualification;
  • Grounded knowledge of ANC policies, procedures, strategies and programmes;
  • Developed conceptual and analytical skills;
  • Some grasp of epistemology and ontology as applied to political research methodology;
  • A good understanding of the Legislative arm of the State and its functions;
  • Ability to work within the structures, systems and processes of the ANC, Caucus and Parliament;
  • Excellent written command of English and highly developed writing skills and political writing skills;
  • Sound interpersonal skill and a strong ability to take initiative;
  • Good organisational and project management skills;
  • Sound time management skills;
  • Ability to work in a collective and take decisions collectively;
  • Good organisational and project management skills;
  • Sound research presentation skills;
  • A sound combination of qualitative and quantitative research skills;
  • The ability to work long and very irregular hours;
  • The ability to work under extreme time pressure; and
  • Proven established ANC membership in good standing.

DUTIES:

  • To provide effective and efficient research support to Study Groups, ANC MP’s and other related Caucus structures;
  • The incumbent must be able to develop and conduct in‐depth analysis and research using secondary research methodology in the main, with aspects of primary research;
  • Work in particular ANC Study Groups, and study group clusters to enhance overall effectiveness of the study group and cluster;
  • Provide appropriate research support to a study group;
  • Give depth to analytical work of the study group;
  • Write research position papers; analytical documents; briefing documents; speaking notes and with guidance craft questions to the Executive;
  • Assess the impact of policy options;
  • Prepare briefings and summary notes for study groups;
  • Assist ANC in its oversight functions;
  • Carry out work as delegated by the Office of the Chief Whip;
  • Carry out work as delegated by the Research Manager;
  • Work in a collective and under the supervision of a manager;
  • Maintain effective protocol and diplomacy relations with ANC members; and
  • Ensure that confidential information is handled appropriately.
