CONSTITUENCY RESEARCHER

Applications are invited from suitable candidates with appropriate qualifications and experience for the following position: CONSTITUENCY RESEARCHER (Salary: An all‐inclusive salary package at Level 9 per annum – R300, 168.87 p. a)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Social or Human Sciences;
  • 2 years’ relevant research experience;
  • Grounded knowledge of ANC policies, procedures, strategies and programmes;
  • A good understanding of the Legislative arm of the State and its functions;
  • Ability to work within the structures, systems and processes of the ANC, Caucus and Parliament;
  • Excellent communication skills, including highly developed writing skills and political writing skills;
  • Sound application of research methodologies;
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills;
  • Sound interpersonal skill and a strong ability to take initiative;
  • Good organisational and project management skills;
  • Sound time management skills;
  • Sound research presentation skills;
  • A sound combination of qualitative and quantitative research skills;
  • Proven established ANC membership in good standing.

DUTIES:

  • To provide effective and efficient research support to the ANC Parliamentary Provincial Caucus
  • Reports to the Head of Constituency Field Work in the Office of the Chief Whip
  • Interacts with the Provincial Senior Field Worker
  • Performs research as directed by the Parliamentary Provincial Caucus’s and the Provincial Convenor
  • Required to interpret direction given by Provincial Conveners and to identify key focus areas in assigned provinces
  • Responsible for conducting constituency field work related research for assigned provinces
  • Engages with provincial researchers based in the office of Provincial Chief Whips to develop and build profiles of existing initiatives in assigned provinces
  • Gathers and analyses relevant information and reports from the Senior Provincial Filed Workers and PCO offices
  • Drafts reports on provincial ability and progress towards meeting constituency field work objectives
  • Tracks and reports on how funds granted for field work in assigned provinces are being used
  • Highlights areas for improved use of funds based on trends and observations made
  • Alerts the Head of Constituency Field Work Support to any immediate and/or significant risks
  • Establishes strong networks of relevant stakeholders within assigned provinces
  • Drafts opinions and recommendations to the Parliamentary Provincial Caucus convenor as required
  • Identifies complementary programs or sources of funding that may enhance the effectiveness of specific field work initiatives
  • Draft proposals for initiative enhancement and presents approved proposals to the Provincial Caucuses
