The ANC condemns the burning of a School by Pupils Over Matric Dance Cancellation in KZN

AK Ramolobeng

The ANC condemns in the strongest possible terms, the shameful and irresponsible burning of classrooms at Kanye -Kanye High School in eDumbe in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday 29 October 2022.  The high school, believed to have been set alight by angry matric pupils after The school management cancelled the matric dance, suffered partial damage. This is unfortunate, more so when it is done on the eve of the examinations for the learners.

The ANC condemns such reckless, thuggish and criminal behaviour of destroying public infrastructure when people have grievances, worse about a matric dance. We call upon the law enforcement agencies to investigate and identify the perpetrators of this criminal act.

We also call on communities to ensure schools and other community facilities are protected from thugs (some in school uniform ) who want to derail the future of the South African children.

We are happy that the exams at the school were not affected by the incident. Education is a societal matter, hence communities themselves must ensure maximum protection of schools.
