The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House
- notes with sadness the untimely passing on of a renowned South African actress Connie Chiume, on Tuesday, 06 August 2024, at the age of 72;
- recalls that she is best known for her roles in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Beyoncé’s Black Is King;
- remembers that she began her career as a nurse and teacher before turning to acting in 1977;
- further remembers that she became well-known for her role in TV series such as Inkom’ Edla Yodwa, Rhythm City, Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, and others;
- recognizes that throughout her career, she received several awards, including the NTVA Avanti Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for Soul City in 2000 and the SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for Zone 14 in 2009; and
- extends its heartfelt condolences to Connie Chiume’s family, friends, and colleagues.
