Condemnation Of Killing Of 18 People In Lusikisiki

30 September 2024

As the Whip of the Study Group on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, I would like to express my deepest condemnation on the vicious and cruel killing of the 18 people in the Ngobozana Village in Lusikisiki. The 18 killed people are predominately women and children, and that pains me even more.

The killing of 18 people is an atrocity that defies comprehension, a tragic loss that reverberates far beyond the lives directly taken. The sheer scale of this violence is staggering, and the impact extends to families, friends, communities, and society as a whole. Each of those 18 lives was filled with potential, dreams, relationships, and untold stories that will now never unfold. Such senseless violence is not only an assault on individual lives but also on our shared humanity. In the face of this tragedy, we must stand united in our condemnation of this horrific act and commit ourselves to ensuring that justice is served and the root causes of such violence are addressed.

The loss of 18 lives in a single incident underscores the brutal reality of mass violence, which is often driven by hatred, fear, or a lack of regard for human life. This kind of violence shakes the very foundations of society, instilling fear and insecurity in the hearts of those left behind. It challenges our collective moral fabric and demands urgent reflection on how such an unspeakable crime could occur. The fact that so many lives could be taken so abruptly and violently is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the need for stronger measures to prevent such tragedies.

I would like to convey my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and I hope they find closure soon. I urge the law enforcement agencies to use all the resources at their disposal to find and prosecute the perpetrators of this injustice. The families and friends of the victims deserve justice.
