The ANC study group on Police commends the work of Crime Intelligence and the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit following the arrest of two suspects and the consequent discovery of a drug laboratory worth more than R10 million in Westonaria.
We believe that these arrests will lead to many others to stem the tide of the illicit trade of drugs and other narcotics that threaten community safety and increase violence against women, children, and the elderly. The discovery and dismantling of drug labs and the arrest of kingpins will help stop the selling of drugs in the streets of Gauteng and other cities and towns around the country.
We commend the work of the South African Police Services for their unwavering commitment to fighting crime and have no doubt that they will do a great job of ensuring that we raise our children in a drug-free society.
The reality is that legislative and policy measures instituted by governments cannot alone rid us of drug-related crime, which is a major problem in South Africa with a significant impact in our communities.
The ANC study group therefore calls on all sectors of society to play their part and work with law enforcement agencies by reporting all drug activities in their communities. The drug-related crime rate is very high in our communities, and it threatens the future of our children. The scale of the impact of drug use in our society places upon us all a responsibility that we cannot avoid.
The ANC wants to caution all those who think South Africa is an ideal country for them to carry out their evil deeds and think again.
