The ANC Parliamentary Basic Education Study Group congratulates the Class of 2024 for their remarkable and commendable achievement in the National Senior Certificate examinations. The national pass rate significantly increased by 4.4% from 82.9% in 2023 to an impressive 87.3% in 2024 with 47.8% bachelor pass, a 6.9% increase, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our learners, teachers, and educational institutions and communities. This unprecedented increase reflects not only individual accomplishments but also the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved in the education sector.
We commend the provinces with the highest bachelor passes and constituting the top 10 districts namely Kwa-Zulu Natal followed by Gauteng and Free State.
Today, 55.7% of matriculants are females, and 572 338 of the learners receive social grants. We recognise the performance of Quantile 1 to 3 schools, with 490 achieving 100% and 3688 schools achieving between 80% and 99%.
As we celebrate this milestone, we acknowledge the concerted targeted efforts to strengthen our education system in the ANC-led 6th administration under the leadership of the Former Minister of Education Angie Motshekga’s tenure has laid a solid foundation for continuous improvement of education outcomes. We honour her legacy and the transformative impact she has had on our education system.
Furthermore, we reaffirm the African National Congress’ (ANC) commitment to investing in the people through education . It is our firm belief that education is the cornerstone of our society and the bedrock of our economic development. The ANC is committed to prioritising education as a fundamental right and a powerful weapon of self-liberation.
We are dedicated to intensifying our efforts to ensure that quality education is accessible to all South Africans, particularly in underprivileged communities. This commitment includes increasing funding for schools, providing essential resources for educators and learners, and implementing innovative programs that foster a conducive learning environment.
Efforts are required to increase the number of Mathematics, Physical Sciences and other Technical Subjects enrolment, which are critical to developing skills to propel the growth and development of our productive sectors.
As we look to the future, let us continue to work together to build an education system that not only meets the needs of our youth but also equips them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
We believe that the implementation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act, the introduction of compulsory Grade R, and the expansion of Early Childhood Development in the seventh administration will further strengthen our education outcomes.
The success of the class of 2024 is a source of pride for our nation, and we believe they will make a positive impact in our communities and beyond as they pursue further training and higher education.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
