The work of the Border Management Authority aims to ‘secure borders for development’ through the realisation of regional economic integration, efficient trade and tourism through facilitation of legitimate movement of persons and goods within our border law enforcement area.
More importantly, border management for the ANC is about protecting our country’s sovereignty, economic prosperity, and our homeland security. The recent signing of a historic Joint Action Plan by the Border Management Authority (BMA) and the South African Revenue Services (SARS) with the Kingdom of Eswatini to address the challenges faced in the border environment, is thus a positive and progressive development. The delegation from the Authority met on Wednesday, 6 November 2024 with the Kingdom of eSwatini to engage on a shared vision to manage borders. The Bilateral Joint Action Plan included commitments to enhance the existing approach to managing the borders including the harmonisation of policy and procedures and joint organisation of resources and structures to support efficient movements and trade facilitation. South Africa has already signed the JAP with the Republic of Mozambique in 2023 and significant improvements on trade facilitation were realised.
