The ANC Caucus in Parliament is saddened by the sudden passing of the Regional Chairperson and newly elected Executive Mayor of the Sarah Baartmaan District Municipality, Cde Mzimkhulu “Scara” Njadayi.
The ANC, the people of the District and the Eastern Cape at large have lost an incredibly hard working servant who was committed to changing the lives of the communities he served.
Cde Scara grew up in the ANC, from being a COSAS member to the ANCYL. He became the first Regional Chairperson of the ANCYL in Sarah Baartman, Regional Organizer then Regional Secretary for two terms and then went on to be elected in the provincial leadership as the Provincial Deputy Secretary. He played a critical role in the Provincial Executive Committee, which led to the Eastern Cape calling for the Economic Freedom in Our Lifetime to be adopted in the ANC Strategy and Tactics document as part of programmatic efforts towards the attainment of the National Democratic Society.
He showed his commitment to the movement through working with people on the ground to ensure that the impact of his work is experienced by those he served. He led from the front with great leadership qualities with the aim of taking the Region to greater heights, representing and implementing the ideals and principles of the ANC.
His participation in the recent Local Government Elections was inspiring, displaying his selfless commitment which saw him as one of the Councillor candidates who took the Pledge to do better, to deliver services promptly and consistently, to stimulate local economies and to listen, have open lines of communication and be available at all times.
Uwile umthi omkhulu!! (A great tree has fallen). His is a great loss as he has left us at a difficult period, a time when our country and our movement is working towards the revitalisation of our economy and the renewal of our organisation, a time when critical thinkers of his calibre are needed.
As ANC Caucus, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and community of Cde Njadayi. We dip our banners in honour of a great leader, servant and comrade.
May his revolutionary soul rest in eternal peace.
Lala Ngoxolo Thangana, Krila.
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip Hon. Pemmy Majodina
