We welcome the provision of 24,000 houses over the past five years by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government.

In addition, 115 informal settlements have been upgraded, benefiting 57,000 households in the past five years. The ANC has always maintained that to restore the human dignity of the people, ensuring that they have decent living conditions is but one of our key deliverables.

A testament to this upgrading of the informal settlements is the Dacower informal settlement in Mdantsane, which has been completely transformed into a formal housing settlement. By working together and trying to ensure that we leave no one behind,

Eastern Cape households who reside in formal dwellings significantly increased from 48% in 1996 to 83.6% in 2022.
